Papua New Guinea and the Lao Peoples’ Democratic Republic formalized diplomatic relations on 6 May 1976. Over the years, there have been limited interactions between the two countries, thus this reflects the current status of the relationship between the two countries.
However, contacts have been mostly through multilateral for which the two countries are members, including the UN and its Agencies, ASEAN (AMM), ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF), and Non-Aligned Movement (NAM).
To strengthen meaningful relations, PNG is exploring establishing through the exchange of bilateral visits at Ministerial and Officials as well as at private levels trade, investment & economic relations, and technical cooperation.
